Contents

- Introduction of the 1997 Banknote Series
Ulrik H. Bie, Secretariat
An account is given of the circulation of the individual banknotes since the introduction of the 1997 banknote series. In the course of six months more than two thirds of the banknotes in the previous series have been withdrawn.
- Interest and Dividend on Denmark's External Debt
Frank Øland Hansen and Lill Thanning Hansen, Statistics Department
A description is given of the relation between the external debt and interest and dividend payments to and from abroad. The interest level on net debt in 1998 was as high as 8.7 per cent because on average assets accrue interest at a somewhat lower rate than liabilities.
- TARGET's First Year
Jesper Berg and Thomas Bo Christensen, Payment Systems Department
Use of the euro payment system, TARGET, has been considerable, especially in the euro area member states. User surveys show that the system is generally accepted, but also indicate opportunities for improvement.
- Demography and Growth in Denmark
Erik Haller Pedersen, Economics Department
In view of the prospect of stagnation in the workforce and a strong increase in the number of people receiving retirement pensions an unchanged level of public services will make it difficult to achieve further reductions of working hours for many years to come.
- The Euro and Denmark
Speech by Bodil Nyboe Andersen to the British Import Union on 18 January 2000.
