During the 1920s new payment methods became more prevalent. The post giro system was established in 1920 and by 1927 cheque transactions had reached such a scale that Danmarks Nationalbank and the major banks concluded an agreement for cheque clearing at Danmarks Nationalbank's premises. The banks exchanged cheques to settle net amounts.
