Ecclesiatical art on the reverse of banknotes - 1997 series
The key motifs on the reverse sides of the banknotes are Romanesque stone reliefs from Danish churches. These motifs are chosen because they are typically Danish. The painter Asger Jorn and several other Danish artists have worked intensively with this art form. Danish ecclesiastical art of the early Middle Ages has also drawn great interest abroad. The stone reliefs are reproduced with some artistic freedom in order to achieve uniform presentation of the motifs on the notes.
