PhD Resident Student Program

Publiceret
Danmarks Nationalbank offers several fellowships to support students enrolled in a PhD program. Resident students are hosted at Danmarks Nationalbank for two to three years during their PhD program and collaborate with economists on research projects. Visiting students join the Research Unit for shorter periods and are expected to be at an advanced stage in the completion of their PhD thesis.

Danmarks Nationalbank invites applications for fellowships to support students enrolled or wishing to enroll in a PhD program and planning to conduct their PhD research in one of the areas of interest to the bank within Economics or Finance. PhD Fellows will be allocated office space at Danmarks Nationalbank in Copenhagen, Denmark; will be provided with a monthly stipend equivalent to the stipend currently offered to students enrolled in a doctoral program in Economics at a Danish University (DKK 25,759 or around EUR 3,453); will have their tuition fees covered, up to the amount charged to Danish nationals enrolled in a doctoral program in Economics at a Danish University.

PhD fellows will be mentored by the academic advisors in the PhD program at the University where they are enrolled. They are expected to be physically present at the bank on a regular basis during the week, participate in the banks professional environment, be integrated in the activities of the Research Unit, and work towards the completion of their PhD thesis. Fellows will be able to translate their knowledge into value and become part of a unique workplace and Danmarks Nationalbank professional and social community. Fellows are strongly encouraged to use the extensive data available at Danmarks Nationalbank for their research, collaborate on research projects, present their work to the banks economists. During the program the fellows will be expected, consistently with the practice in Danish PhD programs, to work up to 840 hours during a full 3 year program on projects for Danmarks Nationalbank. These projects should, however, be related to the PhD project. More information on the activities of the Research Unit can be found at https://www.nationalbanken.dk/en/research/Pages/default.aspx

The fellowship offers support for up to three years, and is renewed yearly subject to approval of a progress report and maintenance of excellent academic performance. Students are expected to be two to three years away from completion of their PhD studies. Students who are less than 18 months away from completion of their PhD should apply for the PhD Visiting Student Program. In general, applications following the Danish 4 + 4 arrangement will not be considered.
