Coins valid in Denmark

Legal coins since 1875.

All coins issued after the introduction of the krone as Denmark's currency in 1875 can be exchanged at face value at Danmarks Nationalbank, if the denomination is still in circulation.

1-, 2-, 5- and 10-øre coins cannot be exchanged, as these denominations are no longer legal tender. From 1 October 2008, the 25-øre coin was no longer legal tender. Until 1 October 2011 exchange of the coin was possible in banks, savings banks and in Danmarks Nationalbank.

In the years 1924-40, a ½-krone coin was minted. This coin was withdrawn as legal tender by the end of 1942. Consequently, it cannot be redeemed.
