Danmarks Nationalbank's gold sent to the USA



In the months prior to the German occupation on 9 April 1940 gold was transported from Copenhagen to the USA, where most of it remained during the war, while some was sold to cover interest costs on Danish government loans in the USA. Since some of the gold was already deposited in England, on Denmark's occupation there was very little gold left at Danmarks Nationalbank.

Today most of Danmarks Nationalbank's gold is deposited with the Bank of England in London
