Roskilde Bank acquired by Danmarks Nationalbank and the Danish Contingency Association
On 24 August 2008, Danmarks Nationalbank and the Danish Contingency Association entered into an agreement with the board of Roskilde Bank to take over all assets and debt commitments from Roskilde Bank except subordinated loan capital and hybrid capital. From 10 July 2008, Danmarks Nationalbank had provided an extraordinary credit facility to Roskilde Bank subject to a number of conditions, including that attempts would be made to sell the bank. No buyers came forward, and the bank's write-downs on large single customers and property exposures grew larger and larger. Danmarks Nationalbank found that the circumstances of Roskilde Bank posed a considerable threat to financial stability in Denmark. At that time, Roskilde Bank was the 8th largest bank in Denmark, which prompted Danmarks Nationalbank and the Danish Contingency Association to acquire the bank. In August 2009, Roskilde Bank was transferred to the government-owned Financial Stability Company with a view to winding up.
