Fake advertisements and articles about the governors of Danmarks Nationalbank and the bank itself

Fake advertisements and articles regularly appear on social media, presented as interviews with the governors of Danmarks Nationalbank, often accompanied by fake images or videos created using artificial intelligence (AI). These advertisements and articles are scams designed to trick you into transferring money or sharing personal information.

Fake advertisements and articles that use the governors of Danmarks Nationalbank or other representatives of the bank as attention-getters appear regularly on social media and on the Internet. They may appear convincing and, for example, be accompanied by images of people who at first glance resemble a Danmarks Nationalbank governor, but the images are created using artificial intelligence (AI), and the content is fabricated.

Such fake advertisements and articles typically take the form of an interview with an employee or governor from Danmarks Nationalbank or refer to a television interview in which the bank recommends – or tries to keep secret – an investment product that guarantees large and rapid gains. However, they are scams intended to entice you to transfer money or share personal information, for example in connection with setting up or paying for the investment products.

Danmarks Nationalbank and its representatives never provide investment advice or recommendations on specific financial products or services.

If you want advice on investments or similar matters, contact your own bank or stick to established, reputable financial providers.

What should you do if you suspect fake content involving Danmarks Nationalbank?

If you come across online advertisements or articles that you suspect are fake, your options include:

  • Checking whether the sender of the advertisement or the web address (URL) at the top of your browser looks trustworthy.
  • Checking the sender’s or news outlet’s official profile or website and see whether you can find the content there – not by clicking on links or the sender’s name, but by searching for it yourself.
  • You can also check whether similar fraud attempts are reported on the app Mit Digitale Selvforsvar, which is published by Forbrugerrådet Tænk.
  • Do not click on links in advertisements or news articles, and do not provide your personal information, card details or similar data. If you have already responded to such an advertisement or article, you can get advice from sikkerdigital.dk, run by the Danish Resilience Agency together with a number of partners.
  • You can report suspicious posts or advertisements directly to the platform on which they are published, e.g. Facebook, usually by clicking on the three dots next to the post.

You do not need to notify Danmarks Nationalbank directly about fraud attempts. We regularly report this type of post to the platforms that the fraudsters use (Facebook, TikTok and others) and continuously work to improve our ability to detect and remove such posts.
