Guest flats at Nyhavn, Copenhagen

Danmarks Nationalbank has seven guest flats at Nyhavn 18 in Copenhagen. These flats are made available to foreign researchers and artists visiting Danish scientific or artistic institutions. Once a year, educational institutions nominate guests for the flats. Application deadline is middle of February.

Each year, Danmarks Nationalbank makes its guest flats at Nyhavn 18 available free of charge to highly qualified foreign researchers and artists. Residence in the guest flats is normally granted for a period of at least three months and no more than one year. The flats are owned by Danmarks Nationalbank and they are primarily intended for researchers and artists on temporary stays in Denmark.

In the allocation of the guest flats, priority is given to whether applicants contribute knowledge and inspiration to the institution they are visiting and how the collaboration and the guests can contribute to the Danish research environment. The quality of applicants’ previous work is also taken into consideration in the allocation.

A committee consisting of Professor Søren-Peter Olesen, Chairman of the committee, Professor Claus Thustrup Kreiner and Professor Rubina Raja has been set up to assist Danmarks Nationalbank and prioritise in the allocation process. The committee will meet every year in March to consider applications for the following academic year.

Former residents will not be considered for the guest flats for the first five years after they were last allocated a flat. PhD students will not be considered for the flats.

How to apply

The applicant is the guest’s co-worker(s).

The application should include the following:

  • Information about the purpose of the cooperation and the stay in Denmark. It is important to describe the outcome for the host institution and how the guest contributes to the research environment in Denmark.
  • A description of the guest’s most essential career and scientific production (max five pages including list of publications).
  • A description of the guest’s co-workers’ most essential career and scientific production (max five pages including list of publications).
  • Information about how the stay is financed.
  • Information about the number of residents. The guest’s family may share the flat with the guest for the duration of the stay or during parts of the stay. This information is for the purposes of the most optimal use of the flats; we also ask you to state alternative periods for the stay. We expect the guests to use the flats throughout the period of residence.
