Danmarks Nationalbank's history has been characterised by long periods of economic robustness, but also by dramatic episodes challenging price stability, payment systems and the financial sector.
Inflation in Denmark soared in the period 1808-13, and Danmarks Nationalbank was established with the aim of organising the monetary system. Since then, its objective has been to contribute to ensuring stable prices, safe payments and a stable financial system.
Danmarks Nationalbank's objective has been more or less unchanged to this day, although tasks have changed and are constantly developing.
