Large fluctuations in companies’ deposits
In April, Danish companies held bank deposits of kr. 405 billion. This is kr. 49 billion (approximately 10.7 per cent) less than in March. The decline reflects, among other things, dividend payments and a larger corporate acquisition. The development continues a trend of significant fluctuations in companies’ deposits in both Danish kroner and foreign currencies since 2020. The fluctuations can, among other things, be explained by companies’ need for sufficient liquidity for purposes such as dividend payments, corporate transactions and capital investments. Large Danish companies with activities abroad – either directly or through subsidiaries – can also manage the group’s liquidity in foreign currencies, for example through deposit accounts in Danish banks.
