Unchanged installments on homeowners’ mortgage debt
In 2025, homeowners paid an average of kr. 18,700 in regular installments per borrowed mortgage million. This is on par with 2024 but still kr. 5,500 less than in 2020, when repayment levels last peaked. Homeowners’ ongoing installments depend not only on whether the debt is with installments and on the size of the debt. Interest rate developments and the remaining maturity also play a decisive role in the repayment profile and thereby the installments: In 2025, the share of homeowners’ mortgage debt with amortizing was largely unchanged from the previous year, at around 52 per cent. The interest rate (excluding administration fees) fell slightly, and the lower rate contributed, in isolation, to higher installments. However, the positive effect of lower interest rates was offset by a negative effect from longer remaining maturity. Overall, homeowners paid just over kr. 32 billion in regular installments on their mortgage debt in 2025.
