Increasing Danish and European investments in green bonds
Green bonds now account for 7 per cent of Danish investors’ total bond investments, while the share for European investors is 5 per cent. Five years ago, the shares for both Denmark and the euro area were around 2 per cent. There is considerable variation across individual euro area countries, and a share of 7 per cent places Denmark in the top quartile alongside countries such as the Netherlands, Finland, and France. At the end of 2025, Danish investors had invested kr. 355 billion in green bonds, while euro area investors had invested kr. 9,800 billion, with German and French investors holding the largest shares. Since February 2026, Danmarks Nationalbank has published statistics on sustainable bonds (including green bonds), available in the Statbank.

Note:
Quarterly data, nominal values. Green bonds may be issued by, for example, financial institutions and governments, with the purpose of using the proceeds to finance green projects such as renewable energy, green transport, or afforestation. More data can be found in the tables on sustainable bonds, DNSUBOI (issuances) and DNSUBOH (holdings), and further information on the new statistics is available in this stat news: New statistics focusing on sustainable bonds
