Danmarks Nationalbank’s balance sheet
Danmarks Nationalbank’s balance sheet is a statement of Danmarks Nationalbank’s assets and liabilities. The statistics include information on Danmarks Nationalbank’s foreign exchange reserve, banks’ and mortgage credit institutions’ monetary policy deposits and lending and the net position.
The foreign exchange reserve, consisting mainly of deposits at foreign banks and foreign securities, is part of Danmarks Nationalbank’s contingency reserve under the fixed exchange rate policy. The foreign exchange reserve enables Danmarks Nationalbank to buy and sell foreign exchange in the foreign exchange market in order to stabilise the krone exchange rate in the short term. The net position of banks and mortgage credit institutions at Danmarks Nationalbank is their net deposit at Danmarks Nationalbank for monetary policy purposes. In practical terms, it is calculated as monetary policy deposits, i.e. current account deposits and certificates of deposit, less monetary policy lending.
The statistics are based on accounting figures from Danmarks Nationalbank.
