Unusually large Danish acquisitions abroad in 2025

Danish direct investments abroad reached a record high in 2025, amounting to kr. 244 billion. Several large corporate acquisitions drove the large direct investments abroad, including DSV’s acquisition of the logistics company DB Schenker in Germany, Genmab’s acquisition of the biotech company Merus in the Netherlands, Carlsberg’s acquisition of the soft drink producer Britvic in the United Kingdom, and Novo Nordisk’s acquisition of the biotech company Akero Therapeutics in the United States. In a press release, DSV stated that the total purchase price of DB Schenker was kr. 107 billion. The acquisition is the second-largest Danish corporate transaction, only Novo Nordisk’s acquisition of American Catalent in 2024 together with Novo Holdings was larger.

The figure shows Danish outward direct investments. Direct investments are investments in companies across national borders, where the investor has a significant influence on the company that is being invested in. A distinction is made between inward and outward direct investments, where outward direct investments are Danish direct investments abroad, and inward direct investments are foreign direct investments in Denmark. Find chart data here.
