Danish pension contributions increased in 2025
Danish pension companies received particularly high pension contributions in 2025. Total pension contributions for the year amounted to kr. 175 billion, which is 7.4 per cent more than last year. Pension contributions have increased steadily over the years, due in part to higher employment and rising wages, which automatically increase contributions. At the same time, temporary factors and changes in saving behavior can cause fluctuations in individual years. In particular, in 2025, expectations of changes to income tax thresholds in 2026 may have brought forward Danes’ contributions and thus increased overall pension contributions. Total pension assets have risen to kr. 4,584 billion. In addition to the high contributions, this also reflects positive investment returns in recent years.
Pension contributions increased by kr. 12 billion in 2025
Note:
Pension contributions include regular contributions as well as lump-sum payments into pension schemes with pension funds and life insurance companies. The figure is reported on a gross basis, meaning that benefit payouts have not been deducted. Transfers of pension accounts to and from companies are not included in the calculation.
