Households' purchases of investment certificates have flattened out

Danish households have sold investment certificates for around kr. 7 billion in the period 2022-2023. The sale is in stark contrast to the period 2020-2021, where households purchased investment certificates for a total of kr. 75 billion. The sale in the past two years have primarily been from investments in bond funds. On the other hand, households have invested almost kr. 9 billion in equity fonds in the same period, of which the majority has gone to funds with global shares. In the periods 2020-2021 and 2022-2023, the market conditions have been very different. In particular, uncertainty about future returns may have pushed households' desire to buy. Instead of buying investment certificates, they can, for example, have increased deposits, reduced debt, or bought securities directly bypassing funds.
