Almost every third card payment is now made via digital wallets
Danes’ use of digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay increased in 2025. In 2025, 31.6 per cent of Danes’ 2,863 million card transactions were made via digital wallets. In 2024, the share was 28.0 per cent. This development indicates a shift in Danes’ payment habits. Looking at the value rather than the number of card transactions, wallet payments accounted for a smaller - but also increasing - share: 22.6 per cent in 2025 compared with 19.2 per cent in 2024. The growing use of wallet payments is occurring alongside a general increase in Danes’ total card turnover. In 2025, card turnover reached kr. 819 billion, corresponding to an increase of 5.9 per cent compared with 2024. Card turnover is measured as Danes’ card transactions in both physical and online retail, conducted in Denmark and abroad, but excluding cash withdrawals.

What is a digital wallet?
A digital wallet is a digital version of a physical wallet, typically found as an app on smartphones. It allows the user to integrate their payment card into their phone and use it for payments via payment terminals in physical stores as well as for online purchases.
It is important to note that you can make a mobile payment without it necessarily being a wallet payment. For example, if the payment card is integrated into a supermarket app and payment is made through the app. The statistics include only payments made via actual wallet solutions such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
