Stabilisation in foreign ownership share of callable mortgage bonds

The euro area’s ownership share of fixed rate callable mortgage bonds has remained stable at around 21 percent for several years. In 2025, other foreign investors have also maintained a stable ownership share. In previous years, however, they showed a declining interest in these mortgage bonds. This may, among other things, be due to increased costs of currency hedging – particularly for Japanese investors. Data on euro area countries’ investments in Danish mortgage bonds come from the European Central Bank, which Danmarks Nationalbank publishes in the Statbank.
