To mark the 75th birthday of Queen Margrethe II on 16 April 2015, Danmarks Nationalbank will be issuing a commemorative coin. The coin will be minted as a silver 500-krone coin, a 20-krone circulation coin and a 20-krone coin in a proof version with a very sharply embossed motif.
The Queen wished to have a portrait on the obverse of the coin that focused on the Queen as a private individual without any tiara or jewellery. Consequently, Danmarks Nationalbank's medallist Henrik Wiberg, who has modelled the portrait, has chosen to show the Queen in a three-quarter profile. This is the first time the Queen has been portrayed in that way on coins.
The reverse motif was designed by Jeanette Skov Jensen, senior graphic designer at Danmarks Nationalbank. It was inspired by the Queen's artistic side, taking the Queen's motifs of Danish landscapes as the point of departure. As an extra layer, the Queen's personal signature is shown.
All three versions of the commemorative coin will be on sale from 8 April from Danmarks Nationalbank, from the Royal Danish Mint's webshop, royalmint.dk, and from certain banks and coin dealers.
