Danmarks Nationalbank's Governor Per Callesen has wished to resign from his position as member of Danmarks Nationalbank's Executive Board after 13 years in the post. The resignation will take place when a new member of the Executive Board has been appointed and no later than the end of August.

"It has been a great privilege for me to be part of Danmarks Nationalbank's Executive Board and to head such an important institution as Danmarks Nationalbank. After 13 years in office, I think the time has come to leave the way to new forces. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many dedicated and talented colleagues with whom I have worked at the bank. A big thank you also to our many external partners, e.g. in the financial sector, public authorities and the professional economic environment. Special thanks to my management colleagues Christian Kettel Thomsen and Signe Krogstrup for their excellent cooperation," says Per Callesen.

From 1 September 2024 and provisionally for one year, Per Callesen will be part of a project collaboration between Danmarks Nationalbank and the University of Copenhagen on macroeconomics and economic policy in historical perspective.

"Throughout a long working life, I have worked with macroeconomics and economic policy from many different angles. I look forward to putting my knowledge and experience to good use in a way that will help to better understand the structural aspects of the economy and the impacts of different policy responses. A common denominator for my career so far has been to work with economic issues in a societal context, and I hope to continue to do so in the future in different contexts," says Per Callesen.

Per Callesen has been a member of Danmarks Nationalbank's Executive Board since February 2011. He came to the bank from a position as Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF. This was preceded by a long-standing career in the Ministry of Finance as Head of Department for Macro Policy as well as EU and International Relations.

"I would like to thank Per Callesen for his great efforts at Danmarks Nationalbank over more than a decade. He has worked with all aspects of Danmarks Nationalbank's activities. Per is a very well-liked colleague, who over the years has also prioritized being a sparring partner for employees in all parts of the organization," says Christian Kettel Thomsen and continues:

"Per has unique experience and insight into working with macroeconomics, economic policy, financial regulation and the money and foreign exchange markets. Therefore, I am also particularly pleased that Per wants to continue working professionally with the area."

A recruitment process is now underway to appoint a new governor of the central bank. Danmarks Nationalbank's Board of Governors will, on the recommendation of Danmarks Nationalbank's Board of Directors, appoint the new Governor.
