Danmarks Nationalbank will begin work on new coins featuring His Majesty King Frederik X following the king's succession of the Danish throne.

Danmarks Nationalbank will continue to mint 10- and 20-kroner coins with the regent's portrait as the motif on the obverse while the regent's monogram will also continue to feature on 1-, 2- and 5-kroner coins. The bank is in the process of updating coin designs and plan to work closely with the Royal Court on the matter.

Traditionally, Denmark issues a passing of the crown coin, which last happened when Queen Margrethe II became the Danish monarch following the death of her father, King Frederik IX. Danmarks Nationalbank has also commenced preparations for the special coins to commemorate the passing of the crown.

Minting coins is a time-consuming process, and once the final design is agreed, minting will require the use of special production processes. Thus, the new coins are expected to enter circulation by the end of the year at the earliest.

The new coins will not replace coins currently in circulation but will be released into the stock currently circulating.

Danmarks Nationalbank will publish information about new coins continuously on its website.
