Developments in the Danish Labour Market in Recent Years - Part 1

This article analyses the performance of the Danish labour market during first the overheating of the economy, then the recession. A characteristic feature is that staff turnover has been high irrespective of the cyclical position. In general, the rising unemployment during the crisis does not seem to have entailed higher structural unemployment, and viewed over a longer period long-term unemployment is very low. Therefore, the challenge in the current downturn is that some people leave the labour market permanently rather than a permanent increase in unemployment.
