Fiscal Policy in the EU – What Have We Learned from the Crisis? - Part 1

For a number of euro area member states, the financial crisis has evolved into an actual sovereign debt crisis. In many member states, expansionary fiscal policy during the boom of the pre-crisis years has been replaced by significant consolidation. The article analyses some fundamental weaknesses in economic cooperation within the EU, which have been highlighted by the crisis. Moreover, the article discusses regulations adopted by the EU member states' in recent years to address these weaknesses.
