In the wake of the financial crisis, Danmarks Nationalbank has expanded its permanent collateral basis to include the banks' credit claims of good quality and temporarily expanded the collateral basis to include new types of collateral. The article outlines the current types of collateral for borrowing from Danmarks Nationalbank as well as the related legal and operational issues. In addition, key aspects of the collateral bases of other central banks are presented, including credit claims eligible as collateral in the Eurosystem.
