Financing the Green Transition
On 8 May 2025, the Danish Council on Climate Change published the anthology ”The Planet and Denmark – Danish Climate Policy in a Global Context” to mark its 10th anniversary. Senior Lead Climate Economist Marcus Mølbak Ingholt and Governor Signe Krogstrup contributed with a chapter on financing of the green transition. Although financing for green investments has increased in recent years, more financing is needed than what is provided on market terms. The most important policy tools to boost green investment financing are CO2e taxes and emission permits. In addition, sustainable finance can contribute. The chapter describes what policy tools authorities can use to promote sustainable finance and what role Danmarks Nationalbank plays in this.
