Payments in the Nordics

The Nordics are among the most digitalised countries in Europe. This is also reflected in how people pay, which is mostly digital. Yet, a closer examination also reveals differences in the use of payment instruments across the Nordics. These differences are probably mostly due to payment habits and the solutions offered by banks. The payment solutions depend among other factors on each country’s banking structure. These are some of the conclusions in a report on payments in the Nordics by the central banks in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The report provides an overview of the Nordic countries’ payment infrastructures and markets and points to differences and similarities across the region.
