One of the central banks' most important tasks is to contribute to secure payments. This work has received increased focus in recent years, partly due to threats to operational resilience from sabotage and cyberattacks. At the same time, it is important that central banks maintain focus on another important task: Promoting and supporting innovation and efficiency in payments. These were among the messages highlighted by Governor Christian Kettel Thomsen in a speech at the Point Zero Forum in Zurich on 7 May 2025.
