Confused about Careers? Untangling Occupational Mobility, Miscoding and Distance
We estimate miscoding probabilities in occupational mobility using changes in US survey designs and use these estimates to correct for measurement error. This leads to stronger empirical patterns of occupational mobility with 'task distance.' Miscoding between occupation pairs also reflects task similarity and can be used as a distance measure itself.
