In the autumn 2014, Danmarks Nationalbank decided to outsource the production of banknotes and coins to external service providers. The new service providers of banknotes and coins will be chosen in a tender. The tender of coins was announced in mid-December 2015 whereas the tender of banknotes will follow.

After concluding the tender process for the coins, Mint of Finland has been chosen as the service provider of Danish coins starting in 2017. The agreement is a framework agreement with duration of four years.

The reason for choosing Mint of Finland is that their bid was the most advantageous on an overall basis. Besides the economical aspect, the award criteria also included quality and security.
