One of the events to celebrate Danmarks Nationalbank's 200th anniversary in 2018 is an exhibition about dramatic highlights in the history of Denmark and Danmarks Nationalbank. The exhibition also illustrates Danmarks Nationalbank's role in modern society.
Her Majesty the Queen will attend the celebration of Danmarks Nationalbank's 200th anniversary on 4 July.
Denmark's participation in the Napoleonic wars in the early 1800s led to enormous government budget deficits. They were financed by printing more money, which triggered soaring inflation in Denmark.
These events prompted the establishment of Danmarks Nationalbank in 1818 with the aim of rebuilding the monetary system. Since then, Danmarks Nationalbank's objective has been to ensure stable prices, a stable financial system and safe and secure payments.
Danmarks Nationalbank's 200-year history has been characterised by long periods of robustness in the Danish economy, but also by dramatic episodes. The whole story unfolds in an anniversary book to be published on 4 July.
The exhibition in Danmarks Nationalbank's lobby at Havnegade 5 in Copenhagen highlights dramatic events in history and invites visitors to try their hand at a game to steer the Danish economy clear of financial crises, address cyberattacks and keep the krone stable.
