Danmarks Nationalbank has appointed Lars Mayland Nielsen as Head of Banking and Markets with effect from 1 February 2021.

Lars Mayland Nielsen is 44 years old and holds an MSc in Economics (cand.oecon.) from Aarhus University. He has been employed with Danmarks Nationalbank since 2002 and has been Head of Monetary Policy Operations and Government Debt since 2016, except for a period of one year in which he was posted to the World Bank.

"Lars has great experience in Banking and Markets' tasks, and is also an experienced and development-oriented executive. He knows the bank really well and has a large international network. With the appointment of Lars as Head of Banking and Markets, we're getting a steady hand at the helm, and I'm really looking forward to working with Lars in his new capacity," says Governor of Danmarks Nationalbank Lars Rohde.

The Banking and Markets department performs tasks connected with management of the foreign exchange reserve and monetary policy instruments, payment systems and back office. In addition, the department handles the management of central government borrowing and debt.

"Danmarks Nationalbank performs an important societal task, and I'm really looking forward to stepping into the new role. I'm driven by creating results in a working environment characterised by high motivation and well-being," says Lars Mayland Nielsen.

Lars Mayland Nielsen replaces Frank Nielsen, who has chosen to retire after 39 years with Danmarks Nationalbank.
