11 January 2022

Denmark has a tradition for issuing commemorative coins to mark special occasions in the Royal Family. Therefore, HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark's Golden Jubilee, i.e. the 50th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne, will be marked on 14 January 2022 with the issue of a commemorative coin in three editions.

Danmarks Nationalbank will issue a 500-krone silver coin with a diameter of 38 mm and a weight of 31.1 g, a 20-krone coin for general circulation and a 20-krone coin in a proof version, where the motif stands out very sharply.

On the front of the coin, there is a new portrait of HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark made by sculptor Kathrine S. Moseholm. The portrait shows the Queen in profile, facing right. It is inspired by paper cuttings and is rooted in the Minimalist sculpture tradition.

On the reverse, there is an organic pattern created by the number 50 as a symbol of the 50th anniversary. The pattern creates a visual reference to the four palaces around Amalienborg Square. The motif on the reverse has been created by Jeanette Skov Jensen, Danmarks Nationalbank's Senior Graphic Designer.

From 14 January, the coins can be purchased from the Royal Danish Mint's webshop, kgl-moent.dk.
