Danmarks Nationalbank has appointed Martin Wagner Toftdahl as Head of Banking and Markets with effect from 1 October 2022.

Martin Wagner Toftdahl is 39 years old and has been employed with Danmarks Nationalbank since May 2021, first as head of Monetary Policy Implementation and Government Debt and most recently as acting head of department. Martin was previously Head of Liquidity & Funding, Group Treasury & ALM in Nordea Group, with management responsibility across the Nordic countries.

Martin also previously worked at Danmarks Nationalbank from 2011 to 2015 and has, among other things, been seconded to the ECB.

"Martin has a solid and broad professional foundation with a deep understanding of Banking and Markets' tasks. Added to this is his international experience and experience from the financial sector. I am convinced that, with his strategic and development-oriented outlook and involving leadership style, he is the right person to ensure both stability and development both as head of department and as a member of the group management," says Governor of Danmarks Nationalbank Signe Krogstrup.

The Banking and Markets department performs tasks connected with management of the foreign exchange reserve and monetary policy implementation, payment systems and back office. In addition, the department handles the management of government borrowing and debt.

"I am very proud of being given the opportunity to continue as head of Banking and Markets. Banking and Markets is key to the execution of Danmarks Nationalbank's core tasks, and we have many challenging tasks in front of us. My focus we be on ensuring that we remain forward looking and adaptive. That is only possible from a strong foundation. We will prioritize collaboration, both with internal and external stakeholders, and from that be challenged and inspired. As a department we have been able to continuously improve and adapt our operations and infrastructure. We need to continue that journey," says Martin Wagner Toftdahl.

Martin Wagner Toftdahl replaces Lars Mayland Nielsen, who has left Danmarks Nationalbank to take up a position as CEO of LD Fonde.
