Denmark and abroad

Denmark and abroad is a collection of various statistics about Danish investments abroad and foreign investments in Denmark.

The statistics under Denmark and abroad concern both transactions and holdings. Transactions are the value of investments made within a given period, while holdings are the total value of investments calculated at a given time. The transactions are shown under the financial account of the balance of payments and the holdings under the international investment position. Both the financial account of the balance of payments and the international investment position are divided into the following main items: direct investments, portfolio investments, financial derivatives, other investments (including loans and deposits) and reserve assets.

The main items are used to calculate Denmark’s net international investment position (net IIP), businesses' investments in and out of Denmark (direct investments), foreign securities trade (portfolio investments) and the composition of Danmarks Nationalbank’s reserve assets (international reserve assets and liquidity).

The statistics contain information regarding who makes investments in and out of Denmark, as well as information on the type of investment.
