The future of Danish cash
Danish 1000-krone banknotes and older banknotes are from 1 June 2025 no longer legal tender in Danish shops and banks. If you wish to exchange banknotes and deposit them to your bank account, there is still an option until 31 May 2026. Cash is needed in Denmark – and it also be needed in the future. Therefore, Denmark will have new banknotes from 2028-2029.

Danmarks Nationalbank's three banknote exchange points in Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen in collaboration with FOREX are now the only way to exchange banknotes that are no longer legal tender.
