Worthless Danish banknotes
Older banknotes and 1000-krone banknotes have become worthless and can no longer be exchanged at Danmarks Nationalbank. Cash will still be needed in Denmark in the future. Denmark will therefore introduce new banknotes in 2028–2029. Going forward, there will only be one valid banknote series at a time.
Exchange of worthless banknotes after the deadline
After 31 May 2026, banknotes that have become worthless can generally no longer be exchanged at Danmarks Nationalbank. In exceptional circumstances, Danmarks Nationalbank may choose to exchange the banknotes. Applications and questions regarding special circumstances will only be accepted after 2 December 2026.
